DUAL-FUELTM Combining diesel and natural gas for clear cost efficiency
Clean Air Power has pioneered the move towards natural gas by developing Dual-Fuel™ technology that provides customers with diesel engine performance, operating fuel cost savings and low carbon emissions.
Clean Air Power's flagship technology is its patented Dual-Fuel™ system, which enables heavy duty diesel engines to operate primarily on natural gas, with diesel fuel acting as a "liquid spark plug". The diesel engine is basically unchanged and retains its high performance and high efficiency 4-stroke diesel cycle. Click Here To See How Dual-Fuel™ Technology Works! By efficiently burning up to 90% natural gas, customers benefit from lower fuel costs and a lower carbon footprint. Dual-Fuel™ can operate normally on bio-methane and bio-diesel, giving it the potential to be carbon-neutral. Finally, if the natural gas supply runs out, the Dual-Fuel™ system changes seamlessly to operate on 100% diesel, giving complete diesel operational back-up.

Clean Air Power completed 2 Dual-Fuel™ demonstration vehicles for the Volvo Group: An FM9 (9-litre) vehicle for Europe and a Mack Pinnacle (13-litre) for the USA, both vehicles capable of operating on bio-gas and bio-diesel to deliver a “Carbon-Free” road-transport solution. Link to press release |

| Dual-Fuel™ is available in 2 main product variants - ECU-Interfaced and Genesis: |
| |
ECU-Interfaced:
The interfaced product is a Dual-Fuel™ solution where the Clean Air Power electronic control unit (ECU) – The Hawk®, is interfaced directly with the vehicle manufacturers ECU. This gives the Hawk®
total control over the diesel pilot and gas injection systems during Dual-Fuel™ operation. Communication between ECU’s is managed by Clean Air Power’s patented controller area network (CAN) interface. Interfaced control delivers the best from the Dual-Fuel™ system. An interfaced product will give optimised regulated emissions, a 20% reduction in “Greenhouse Gas – GHG” and 90% fuel substitution. Interfaced Dual-Fuel™ can be offered as a “production-fit” or a “retro-fit” solution. |

|
 |
Genesis:
Genesis is a less complex after-market retro-fit solution delivering the capability to exploit the commercial and environmental benefits of Dual-Fuel™ today, ahead of full-scale manufacture product offering. Still using patented CAN-based communication, Genesis requires no manufacturer ECU access. Genesis is available on Euro III DAF CF85 and Mercedes Axor vehicles. A Euro V product, compatible with SCR (AdBlue), will be available on Volvo’s FM vehicles by the end of 2008.

On-road, Genesis delivers 50% to 60% gas substitution, resulting in a greenhouse gas reduction of 10% and a cost saving of
6p/km, or £12,000p.a. per vehicle, based on an annual mileage of 200,000 km/year.
